Chapter Seven

Apparently Will’s mother had called early that morning when Will was still asleep. It had to be insanely early considering he woke up at dawn. Did his mother never sleep?

Basically she was demanding the right to be close to her son for the rest of Will’s pregnancy. Leon didn’t like that. Will didn’t either.

“Please tell me she’s not moving in,” Will said.

It had taken an hour before Leon shifted back into his human shape, and by then, Will had found the crushed cell phone. Leon had been mostly in control, but it seemed that the lion had still been running things enough that it hadn’t wanted to change back. It wanted to continue its growling and prowling.

Leon had quickly taken control. Will needed him, so he appeared. It was always strange watching a lion change into a man, or a man change into a lion. Will was still getting used to that, but then, when Leon reluctantly explained the problem, Will felt the need to be sick.

Almost as sick as he’d been back when he first became pregnant. He had to get up and lean over some bushes in the garden. He didn’t throw up, thankfully, but the urge had been there, and it was enough.

Leon rubbed Will’s back. “No, though she did demand it.”

“She demanded it?” Will asked, totally thrown off by the gall, though he supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised.

“She mentioned something about troubles with her bills.”

“You were paying for all of dad’s medical bills. What the hell is she having trouble with?” Will asked. His head still felt hot, and his stomach churned.

His mother wanted to be close to him until the baby was born. What for? Did she feel guilty for the way Will had left the house? Or was she just looking to get at a little more of Leon’s money? What did she want?

Leon continued to rub Will’s back, speaking soothing words to him, trying to get him to calm down. It was working a little, but Will’s head still felt like it was about to explode.

“She won’t be coming here. She can do whatever she wants. She can show up outside the gate with her bags packed and I won’t let her in. Not unless you want her here.”

“I don’t,” Will said as sharply as he could considering he was still fighting not to puke while leaning over some well-trimmed shrubs.

Part of him did feel like he was being a little too harsh. This was his mother after all. Will had felt guilty that he hadn’t been able to reconcile with his father before the man died, and now here he was, freaking out over the fact that his mother wanted to be close to him.

Maybe he wanted to make things better, but not if it meant having her come to live here with him or being so uncomfortably close that she was hovering around him for the rest of his pregnancy. It was stressful enough being a guy who was pregnant and growing a vagina of all things.
